Dimethyl carbonate (abbreviated as DMC) is an environmentally friendly organic compound, colorless, transparent and with a faint aromatic odor.
Physical and Chemical Properties
It exists as liquid at ambient temperature with a moderate boiling point. Slightly soluble in water, it is miscible with most organic solvents. It has a low flash point and is classified as a flammable liquid.

Extremely low toxicity and excellent biodegradability make it a green chemical feedstock. It can replace highly toxic reagents such as phosgene and dimethyl sulfate to cut pollution.
